August 4 on 4

Wasn't it just the middle of June? I can't believe July is over and we're into August already. Why does summer feel like it goes so fast? Here in Minnesota, we are still having some warm summer days, but the evenings are much cooler. It's a reminder that fall isn't that far away.

I've been trying to connect more with photographers for inspiration and came across a blog circle that posts 4 photos from the past month on the 4th of the new month. I've decided to join this talented group from Clickin Moms to showcase four of my favorite photos from the month of July. Be sure to click the link at the bottom of the post to explore the circle!

In the past, 4th of July has found us close to home since our daughter, Riley, has never been a fan of loud noises, but this year we successfully spent time on my in-laws boat. Riley loved it so I can see us doing this again in the future. I was able to get some crisp pictures of fireworks from a boat which amazed me, but my favorite picture captured the peacefulness before the fireworks and the blurry lights on the lake.

This month also included me capturing a 'Day in the Life' (hosted by My Life in Transition). Each season I capture my day from start to finish and at the end of the year I put it into a book. Riley and I love reading back over these and seeing what life was like over the past few years.

A sad moment from the day, but I still love this picture

I also ended up taking an impromptu trip to see my sister in Missouri. I haven't seen her in years so it was nice to bring my dad with to go visit her and her family. We spent a lot of time outdoors even though it was a toasty 95 degrees most days.

My dad. He's the best.

And on top if it all, I started a photography class this month. I've taken courses years ago (ugh, like when I had a film camera and a point and shoot digital) so I was excited to take Capturing Imagery with Purpose by Karen Osdieck. The course is really getting me to slow down and be more purposeful with my pictures and it's making sure I get it right in camera. I can't wait for the rest of the course and am excited to take more courses in the future.

That sums up our July! Be sure to visit Kalen DeRoo at Kalen DeRoo Photography.

  3. Oh! It's cool you've taken up another photography workshop! I took a business-themed class from B&C but not anything else.

It's really good that you got some quality family time too!

  4. Girl, you are busy! My littles don't like fireworks, either. Our 4th was a bust. I love the image of your dad! What a great moment!
